In 2024, during the webinar “TB Active Case-Finding in Latin America using AI & portable X-rays,” Mg. Daniela Puma, Coordinadora del Programa de TB in Peru, shared how the country uses mobile units and backpack X-ray systems equipped with CAD4TB for active case finding. She explained, “We started this strategy in 2018 to identify TB cases at an early stage and start treatment quickly.” Highlighting community engagement, she noted, “We depend on the community because this helps us reach more people and reduce stigma.” In its first year, the program screened 58,000 people, detecting previously missed TB cases and achieving an 83% treatment initiation rate within three weeks.
