Tuberculosis continues to require focused attention in Paraguay, where the disease remains a persistent public health concern. TB-HIV co-infection and ongoing TB-related deaths highlight the need to strengthen diagnostic access, while undiagnosed cases underscore the importance of reliable screening across the country.

Our work in Paraguay

To help close these diagnostic gaps, we’ve partnered with the Ministerio de Salud Publica (PNCT) to extend services into harder-to-reach regions.

2020

The ministry procured a Delft Light X-ray system and CAD4TB to support active case finding.

2022

A second Delft Light system and CAD4TB were deployed. This initiative, supported by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), is part of a broader effort to boost early detection and curb transmission.

“Talking about the X-ray with the use of AI is very useful in areas where tools and resources are not many. We know that the conventional X-ray has limitations. We also have the possibility of variability in the resources, so sometimes, we don’t even have access to people who can use these devices in some areas. So, that’s why AI automates and standardises interpretations and complements healthcare workers. Also, CAD technology promises to be useful with ultra-portable x-ray systems that extend detection to hard-to-reach populations.”
