In a 2026 Digital Health Case Study, the Global Fund reported on Rwanda’s efforts to strengthen its national digital health architecture, including interoperability, electronic medical records, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
The case study highlights the use of computer-aided detection through digital chest X-rays and AI-assisted triage for tuberculosis (TB) case-finding. It also shows how these tools are being integrated into a broader health system that connects community services, health facilities, laboratories, and national platforms.
Rwanda’s approach demonstrates how digital imaging, AI, and connected health information systems can support more coordinated TB services and more informed decision-making across the health system.
