Uganda – Community level screening with OneStopTB Clinic
Community-level TB screening was implemented in Uganda to improve case detection in hotspots and high-risk populations identified through program data and disease burden analysis.
Targeted hotspot mapping
TB screening hotspots and high-risk communities were identified using program data.
Mobile TB screening deployment
The OneStopTB Mobile Clinic was deployed to provide community-based TB screening.
X-ray–guided presumptive identification
Chest X-ray screening was used to identify presumptive TB cases.
Same-day diagnostic testing
Presumptive TB cases were tested using GeneXpert to support rapid diagnosis and treatment initiation.
From May 2022 to September 2022,
- 249 TB cases were diagnosed (TB yield was 3.0%) and 84% promptly started TB treatment.
- 151 people (51%) had bacteriological confirmation by GeneXpert, 28% (1,038/3,752) pending GX results.
- The five rifampicin-resistant TB cases were notified from the community.
- Presumptive patients are tested using GeneXpert for same-day diagnosis and initiation of treatment.
- Community-based TB screening with the OneStopTB Clinic improved TB case detection in high-risk areas.
- Mobile X-ray screening enabled same-day diagnosis and rapid treatment initiation.
