Uganda – Community level screening with OneStopTB Clinic

Mobile TB Clinic in Uganda

Community-level TB screening was implemented in Uganda to improve case detection in hotspots and high-risk populations identified through program data and disease burden analysis.

Targeted hotspot mapping

TB screening hotspots and high-risk communities were identified using program data.

Mobile TB screening deployment

The OneStopTB Mobile Clinic was deployed to provide community-based TB screening.

X-ray–guided presumptive identification

Chest X-ray screening was used to identify presumptive TB cases.

Same-day diagnostic testing

Presumptive TB cases were tested using GeneXpert to support rapid diagnosis and treatment initiation.

Result

From May 2022 to September 2022,

11 ,435 people
were reached with mobile TB clinic services
63 0 people (6%)
had abnormal CXR
  • 249 TB cases were diagnosed (TB yield was 3.0%) and 84% promptly started TB treatment.
  • 151 people (51%) had bacteriological confirmation by GeneXpert, 28% (1,038/3,752) pending GX results.
  • The five rifampicin-resistant TB cases were notified from the community.
  • Presumptive patients are tested using GeneXpert for same-day diagnosis and initiation of treatment.

Conclusion
  • Community-based TB screening with the OneStopTB Clinic improved TB case detection in high-risk areas.
  • Mobile X-ray screening enabled same-day diagnosis and rapid treatment initiation.
