BabyChecker in Guatemala

According to WHO, Guatemala reported

94 per 100,000 live births

mortality rate in 2023, with rural and Indigenous women experiencing even higher rates due to limited access to healthcare facilities.

65% of births

occurs in health centers, but lower in rural areas. Most of these maternal deaths are preventable.

Our work in Guatemala

We have collaborated with Fundación EHAS to implement BabyChecker in Guatemala. This initiative reflects our goal to expand access to essential maternal health services in rural and resource-constrained environments.

2024

BabyChecker has been introduced in primary healthcare settings to improve pregnancy risk screening
and early identification of complications. This enables local health workers to conduct obstetric ultrasound scans
with minimal training, ensuring more timely and informed referrals for expectant mothers.

Ignacio Prieto Egido Director, EHAS Foundation, Guatemala

“Staff who perform prenatal checkups in rural areas do not always have the opportunity to receive extensive training, so having an easy-to-use device is a very important advance for us. That is why we started to collaborate with DOLF and use BabyChecker. It helps us manage high staff turnover and puts the tool directly in the hands of those who work every day in the community.”
